A Progressive Recovery Course of Study
After a number of years developing the Progressive Recovery approach to the Twelve Steps, and completion of the book Progressive Recovery through the Twelve Steps, practitioners asked for a course of study that would allow them to work more deeply with their recovery. The course you’ll find here will guide you through the Progressive Recovery version of the Twelve Steps while providing insights, guidance and tools to support you along the way. It includes content from the book and the website as well as other materials for your recovery.
Progressive Recovery
Progressive Recovery is a continuing and deepening practice of the Twelve Steps, sometimes in non-traditional ways. This allows us to discover and release underlying causes and conditions that block us. That releasing permits "Higher Power" to flow and to act, and healing to occur. The result is a progressive restoration to sanity and wholeness. The process enables greater recovery as well as emotional sobriety.
The School of Transformation
The Progressive Recovery Course described above is a recovery-specific part of a larger School of Transformation being developed to facilitate other forms of growth and development.
The ancient Greeks referred to such remarkable changes as metanoia, which might best translate as profound changes of heart, the results of which could be life altering. Carl Jung called this a psychic change, an idea that found its way into the heart of recovery from addiction. Though there have been many ways of describing this phenomenon, we simply call it transformation.
When such inner alterations take place, our minds are fundamentally changed as well, the result of which can include remarkable changes in personality, the directions we set and the decisions we make, and the actions that follow. Through this we enter the realm of the Spirit, and life-affirming growth becomes a way of life.
The School of Transformation does not assume to be the final authority on these matters. Instead we seek to create a community of practice, a place to learn and grow in ways that change the world through us.
